苦杏仁甙主要存在于苦杏、苦扁桃、桃、油桃(nectarines)、枇杷、李子、苹果、黑樱桃等果仁和叶子中，别名有扁桃甙、苦杏仁甙、苦杏仁苷、维生素B17等。实验表明，苦杏仁苷的化学性质并不活泼，对健康组织影响很少，仅侵犯和破坏癌细胞。苦杏仁苷的活性成分是一种天然产生的氰化物，是人类的代谢产物，只能在癌细胞中发挥作用，有人认为有控制及预**症的作用。
